Both Chick and Chucky love cars. When they see a car door open, they just have to hop in. Chances are, one day a visitor will drive away with one of my furry bundles aboard. Or both!
This picture was taken when we were going to get two chicken and their hen house (of which I will make another picture later).
The dogs could come with us, but to have the cats joins us, as well, was just a bit too complicated. We had helped Roeschka to get in the trunk of the car (she is a very old lady and cannot do this on her own any more) and Chuck joined him.
Now the cats do not only love cars, they love Roeschka as well. Particularly Roeschka I think, because she is usually very calm. Especially Chuck likes to walk up to Roeschka and throw himself on his back at her feet. It is a cattish invitation to play, but Roeschka doesn't speak Cat, let alone Burmese. She doesn't recognize the gesture as a message meant for her. She just walks around him.
Another explanation is that Chucky is beginning to think he's a dog, too. And when Roeschka got in the back of the car, Chucky, too, got a place on the dog-seat.

All I Want Is Some Respect

So I'm bigger, stronger, older. A fierce dog, some say, and with a hefty bark. Everyone respects me. That is all I ask for (and regular meals, of course). But do I get it from that obnoxious feline feller? Never.

Late Night Stroll

When Chick and Chucky reside in the countryside (rural Friesland, to be more exact), they like to join the dogs for the evening walk.
This is both routine and adventure. It means leaving the trusted premises and traveling along the public road, every inch of which has to be inspected. The adjoining gardens and yards have to be inspected, too, of course. This takes time. If C&C see a car, a bike, a strange dog or neighbor approach, they hide till the coast is clear.
When we finally all return to base (the kitchen), the dogs will chew on a snack and Chick and Chucky get their well-deserved saucer with milk. A perfect ending to a perfect evening.

Who says I can trust you?

15 March 2010 - From Cold War to Uncomfortable Armistice. Friendship is not yet an option. Chick and Chucky do trust them, but they do sensde that dogs can feel as intimidated by cats as the other way around. And if such a dog turns out to be very tolerant, and prepared to share space, well, co-existence is suddenly an option. Probably. If the dog agrees not all the beds are his any more.

Unilateral Love at Second Sight

.jpg)
It wasn't love at first sight, on the contrary. The first tim Chucky met Britta, he was shocked.
But this week Chucky decided he loves Britta. If Britta walks to the kitchen Chucky throws himself on his back in front of her, purring. Britta is almost blind, so she'll run right into him - to the dogs annoyance. When Britta sleeps on the bed, Chucky snuggles next to him, until Britta finds it too much and will move a feet or so away. It doesn't discourage Chucky. He simply promotes Britta to his pillow.
